As we rapidly approach the festive season and Christmas Closure, here are some helpful hints and information:
On Friday 15 December, the Helpdesk will be closed from 3pm, although borrowing and returning will still be available on the usual self-service basis and the building will be open as a place to study. The main library building will close at 5.30pm, although the Library Reading Room and Postgraduate Room will be open overnight as usual.
On Saturday 16 December, we’ll be open from 9am to 6pm, but closed on Sunday 17 December.
The Library will be open from 9am-5.30pm from Monday 18 to Thursday 21 December inclusive.
On Friday 22 December, we’ll be open from 9am but will close for the Christmas break at 12.30pm in line with the rest of the University.
We will reopen at 9am on Tuesday 2 January 2018, and will be open from 9am to 5.30pm for the rest of the week and the week following, excluding Saturdays and Sundays.
Our standard term-time hours will resume from Monday 15 January. Full details of the opening hours for Colchester, Loughton and Southend can be found on the Library Opening Hours Page.
Please note that both the Library Reading Room and the Postgraduate Room will be open 24/7 throughout the Christmas period.
No books will be due between 22 December and 2 January, even if they are recalled.
If one of your books is recalled, we'll give at least seven days’ notice of a change of due date. This means that if a book is due back before the Christmas closure, you’ll know about it by 15 December (unless the return date is already between 15 and 21 December, in which case this date will not change).
Any recalls placed during the Christmas closure period will be processed when we open again on 3 January. If one of your books is recalled immediately before the closure, and will therefore be due back on 3 January, you'll know about it by 22 December.
If one of your books is recalled and you decide to post it back to us, we will treat the posting date as the return date so you won’t receive any fines if you post the books back before they’re due.
No fines will accrue on recalled books during the time that we are closed.
Apart from 22 December (pm) to 2 January, we'll be here to answer any questions you might have during the Christmas vacation so please get in touch and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.
Please remember to renew all your library books before you leave University, and continue to renew during the vacation if necessary.
As all items remain subject to recall please do check your emails regularly in case you need to arrange to return something early. If you need to post a recalled item back, the library will count the date of postage as the intended date of return when checking items back in.
If you are going away from campus please either return your books before you go or take them with you so that you can arrange to send one back if it is recalled.
If in doubt, just return your books before you leave for Christmas.
If you have any more questions about borrowing over the holidays, please talk to a member of staff at the Library Helpdesk or get in touch via firstname.lastname@example.org
