Students can borrow up to 5 items at any one time.
Books and DVDs can be borrowed for up to 1 week, and can be renewed if they have not been recalled.
The library search will show you all the material available across the three campuses. To limit your search to just Loughton, after you have searched for the item, select East 15 under the Collection heading in the panel to the left of the page. This will then show you all of the physical items held at the Loughton library.
However, this will stop you from seeing any e-books and e-resources that you could access.
If an item you need is currently out on loan, you can click the On loan? Recall it button. This will mean that when the book comes back to the library, it will be held for you, and you will recieve and email that it is ready to collect.
(Please note, "Adding to Cart", will show you items you are interested in, allow you to add them to lists, and export the information. The librarians will not collect these books for you.)
Both students and staff are welcome in the Albert Sloman Library and can borrow items from the library.
This can be done in person at the Colchester campus, or you can request an item via the Loughton helpdesk.
When requested, items will take 2-3 days to arrive.
Photocopies and electronic versions can be sent to your e-mail/address.
(Borrowing rules and copyright still apply.)
Students and staff at Loughton have access to all of the e-resources available through the University of Essex Library Services.
For more information on accessing e-resources, take a look at the E-Resources FAQs.
If library services do not have access to the material you need, you can go about getting it in a couple of ways:
(Be sure to use the comments box at the bottom of the page to request it for Loughton)
If the book is more specific to your work, you can request it via Inter-Library Loan
Fill in the form, our Inter-Lending librarian will fill your request, and the material should be on its way to you.
For more information on ILL, take a look at the ILL page.
(When you request items via ILL, please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org and let them know you're at Loughton. This will help ensure the item goes to the right place.)
The University of Essex library services are signed up to SCONUL Access; this allows students and staff to access material in other SCONUL Access scheme libraries (pst, this is really useful for the holiday period and for accessing hard to get material)
Academic staff can access all of the materials at the Colchester Campus, as well as the e-resources
All University of Essex reading lists are set up and accessed via Talis Aspire. Please ensure that you have filled in your reading lists, and if you have any issues, please contact email@example.com or phone 01206 873192.
There is also a Reading List Guide for Loughton.
Filling in reading lists early will help us ensure that the teaching material required will be held at the library.
