Internet for Lawyers 
An online tutorial is provided by Social Sciences section of Intute, funded by JISC. The tutorial is free and takes you round the key legal resources available for lawyers.

Legal Portals: UK

Recommended site BAILLI (British And Irish Legal Information Institute 
The British and Irish Legal Information Institute (BAILII) provides access to the most comprehensive set of British and Irish primary legal materials available for free on the internet. It includes 46 databases covering 7 jurisdictions. The system contains around 7.5 gigabytes of legal materials and around 400,000 searchable documents with about 15 million internal hypertext links. Intute: Law
The Intute service is created by a network of UK universities and partners. Subject specialists select and evaluate the websites included in Intute and write high quality descriptions of the resources. Intute: Law provides guidance and access to global legal information resources on the Internet.

Law Paths
Another site from the University of Kent, Lawpaths is a project to develop a resource bank of materials to support the learning and teaching of legal information research skills.

Portal to Legal Resources in England and Wales
Maintained by Delia Venables and one of the first legal portals available in the UK. The site provides a comprehensive set of links to useful legal resources, designed to be of use to the legal community in the UK and Ireland.

The Law Society Library Online 
"Law Society Library Online is the result of a collaborative venture between the Law Society and LexisNexis. It brings you fast, easy access to the library catalogue and value added legal information sources, plus selected free LexisNexis content. If you already have a subscription to LNB, you will be able to link directly from Law Society Library Online to LNB content."

Recommended site AccessToLaw 
A gateway site, providing annotated links to selected UK, Commonwealth and worldwide legal web sites. The content of AccessToLaw is selected, annotated and updated by staff of the Inner Temple Library in London.

Institute of Advanced Legal Studies: Research
Provides guides to finding legal materials, a topic guide, research guides by jurisdiction and guides to legal databases.

Infolaw: Law Finder
The Infolaw service, produced by legal publishing consultant Nick Holmes, provides a gateway to the UK legal Internet. The 'Lawfinder' provides free access to legal resources arranged by subject and directories of organisations and law firms.Country resources are arranged by jurisdiction. Full access is restricted to subscribers only (The Library does not subscribe).

Community Legal Advice
Free, confidential and independent legal advice for residents of England and Wales.

LegalHub 
A site by the legal publisher Sweet and Maxwell, aimed at practitioners.

The Lawyer.Com
The Lawyer.com is a free online information service for the legal profession produced by business publishing company, Centaur Holdings plc. Services provided on the site include legal news, analysis and business information. Free registration is required to access certain parts of the site and to receive weekly email updates. Lawyer News contains full-text stories covering national and international legal news.

Legal Portals: Scotland

Scottish Law Online 
A web portal for lawyers, solicitors or advocates, academics, students or the public who are interested in Scots Law. The site is completely independent and is not associated with any University, Law Firm, the Law Society of Scotland or the Scottish Parliament.

Scots Law News
A blog written by Professor Hector MacQueen includes news stories and developments in Scottish Law.

The Law Society of Scotland
The Law Society of Scotland promotes the interests of the solicitors' profession in Scotland and the interests of the public in relation to the profession.

Scottish Government
Section of the Scottish Government website covering Law, Order and Public Safety.

Student Sites

Law Forums 
A place for law students to talk about the study of law and legal professional training.

Mooting Net 
A web resource for mooters in England and Wales. This site provides background information for 'mooting'. There is also a useful set of links to other student resources under 'legal links'.

Law Competitions
This gateway site provides links to the websites of national and international legal skills competitions for law students provided by the University of Westminster.

Lexis Nexis: Academic
Information on the student associates scheme and the LNB certification, plus career resources.

European Law Students Association
ELSA is the world's largest independent law students' association. It comprises a membership close to 30 000 students and recent graduates who are interested in law and have demonstrated commitment to international issues.

The Bar Council is the professional body for barristers in England and Wales.

Bar Standards Board
The Bar Standards Board was established in January 2006 as a result of the Bar Council separating its regulatory and representative functions. As the independent regulatory board of the Bar Council, they are responsible for regulating barristers called to the Bar in England and Wales.

The Law Society
The Law Society represents solicitors in England and Wales.

The Law Society of Northern Ireland
