Checking out a Download an EBSCOhost e-book

Approximately 50% of our EBSCOHost e-book collection downloadable to portable devices that support Adobe Digital Editions e.g. laptops & e-book readers, allowing readers to access our e-books wherever they like.

If a EBSCOHost e-book is downloadable readers will see the option to 'checkout & download this e-book' & by clicking on this link they can download the e-book to your personal device.

Readers will also need a free personal EBSCOHost account, which can be signed up for in EBSCOHost.

Our downloadable e-books can be 'checked out' for 24 hours allowing readers to ensure they have access to the titles they need whenever they want them.

N.B. e-books can only be downloaded to a personal devices not to the public PCs available in the library or the labs.

You will need to download Adobe Digital Editions installed on your personal device.

Step 1: Click on Download (offline)

Step 2: Click Checkout & Download

Step 3: Click 'Sign in Now' to sign in with your EBSCOHost account.

Step 4: Enter your username and password

Step 5: After a few moments the Checkout & download window will appear again. Click 'Checkout & Download'.

Step 6: You will receive a checkout successful message and the option to open or save the e-book will appear at the bottom of the Screen.

Step 7: Choose Open or Save - the document will be automatically opened using Adobe Digital Editions. If you do not have Digital editions you can download it. Also see the guide to installing Adobe Digital Editions.

If the e-book does not open in Digital Editions automatically and you have installed it. See opening acsm files.
