Mary Whitehouse
![]() |
The following is a brief preliminary listing of the Archives of the National Viewers and Listeners' Association which were placed on permanent deposit in the Albert Sloman Library in July 1993. It is envisaged that a more detailed list, concentrating more thoroughly on correspondence between Mary Whitehouse and prominent figures in the worlds of broadcasting and government, will be produced in the future. Users are informed that efforts have been made to ensure the retention of the original archival integrity of the collection. As a result, material has been kept, where possible, in the same order, and under the same headings, that it was originally filed. For this reason, documentation relating to a specific topic may, quite naturally, be found in different parts of the archive. For example, items concerning the controversial film Last Tango in Paris may be located in the specific file on that film, in the Nationwide Festival of Light section, and in the boxes of correspondence with the Home Office. In order to maximize the utility of the collection users are advised to adopt a similar, flexible approach when researching other topics.
